Viewer
The viewer opens a photo or video fullscreen. Swipe left or right to browse through photos and videos in the album.
Full Screen
Tap once on the photo or video to switch to Full Screen mode — on-screen controls are hidden so you can focus on the image.
Tap again to return to the default view with the toolbar and other controls visible.
In Settings > Viewer, turn on Open in Full Screen to open the viewer directly in Full Screen mode when you tap a photo from the thumbnails screen.
Close Viewer
- Tap the back button on the top left of the screen.
- Pinch to zoom out the photo.
- Swipe down the photo.
Image Zoom
Use a double tap gesture to zoom in or out of a photo.
Use a pinch zoom gesture to zoom to any level you want.
You can customize the double-tap action in Settings > Viewer.
View Information
Tap the i button or use a swipe up gesture to show summary information about the photo.
Touch and hold the i button to open the Metadata Viewer directly for detailed metadata.
In Settings > Viewer, change Info Button Action to Full Metadata so tapping the i button opens the Metadata Viewer directly.
Image Index
Tap the title of the viewer to toggle between index and date/time.
Double-tap the index to enter a number directly and jump to that position.
Customization
Tap the on the bottom toolbar, then choose Options to customize the viewer while browsing:
- Show or hide Keywords and Memo
- Switch Rating Mode on or off — see Rating & Flag
- Toggle Lock Orientation
- Toggle Album Bar and Thumbnail Bar
Use the Album Bar at the bottom of the viewer to quickly assign the current photo to an album. See Add to Album — Album Bar for steps, or Album Picker Bar for more options.

Change Live Photo Key Photo
Tap the Live Photo badge on a Live Photo to change the key photo:
- Scrub to the frame you want to use.
- Choose Change Key Photo.
Extras
Tap the on the bottom toolbar, then choose Extras for additional actions on the current photo:
- Show Photos Nearby — find photos taken near the same location. See Location Filters for details.
- Copy Link — copy a link to open this photo directly in HashPhotos. See Copy Link for details.
Image Playground
On supported devices, open Apple Intelligence Image Playground from the viewer:
- Tap the on the bottom toolbar.
- Tap Edit > Image Playground.
Video Control
When viewing a video, use the Video Control bar to play, seek, mute, and adjust playback options. For details, see Video Playback Control.
